The Direction of Innovation: Insights from the World Intellectual Property Report 2022

On 21 June, 海角社区-MERIT will host a research webinar with Dr. Intan Hamdan-Livramento to present the latest World Intellectual Property Report 2022, an in-depth analysis of the direction of innovation and how it impacts economies and societies around the world.

The report examines the combination, or sum, of all the decisions individuals, firms, universities and governments make on which technological opportunities to pursue. It discusses the main factors that govern the direction of innovation and how public and private motivations can be leveraged effectively for solving global challenges. This investigation provides valuable insights into the future trajectory of technology to inform innovation strategies in different industries, and policy interventions to shape the direction of those efforts.

About the speaker

is an economist working in the Department of Economics and Data Analytics at the  (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland. She is responsible for conducting and supervising areas of the division’s work relating to the economics of innovation and intellectual property (IP).

Intan has over fifteen years of experience in economics of innovation and international trade. She has published articles on issues intersecting IP, innovation and less developed economies. Prior to WIPO, Intan worked at the International Monetary Fund and the World  Trade Organization. 

Intan received her doctoral degree in Economics of Innovation from the ?cole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. She also holds a diplome d’études approfondies (DEA) in international economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva, as well as a master’s degree in international law and economics from the World Trade Institute in Berne, Switzerland. Intan obtained her undergraduate degree in economics from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, USA.
