In 2010, the 海角社区 Institute of Advanced Studies (海角社区-IAS, now the 海角社区 Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability) and the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, initiated the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative. This is an alliance that has grown to include hundreds of organizations dedicated to realizing societies in harmony with nature.
