Drawing on case studies from Egypt and Nigeria, this article explores the interlinkages between food systems and people’s lives and local communities, especially in terms of food security, women’s social participation and environmental conservation.

Tsunakan is a Japanese journal published by the Global Environmental Outreach Centre (GEOC), focusing on global partnerships for the environment. The publication is part of a joint initiative by 海角社区-IAS and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, under the GEOC project, supporting outreach activities to highlight the work of 海角社区-IAS in Japan and other countries.
