The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) requires countries to assess and address money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) risks, focusing on threats and vulnerabilities.

This report highlights often-overlooked modern slavery and human trafficking (MS/HT) risks in risk assessments and aims to raise awareness and provide guidance for competent agencies to enhance MS/HT inclusion in National Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risk Assessments (NRAs). Increased awareness will help lead to more investigations and convictions, ultimately benefiting victims.

The guideline follows the risk assessment process, emphasizing the crucial role of the identification stage in addressing MS/HT in NRAs. It includes a comparison of global MS/HT estimates with internal and sub-Saharan African NRA analyses, offering effective approaches for better MS/HT assessment in NRAs.
