SCIENCE TALK: The Geography of Invisible Vulnerabilities

Understanding the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)-Health Inequalities in Place

Time
- America/Toronto
Details
Open to public

The Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) emphasizes the need for universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as an important pathway to promoting human health and wellbeing. Despite the progress in access to WASH in Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), significant inequalities still exist across space and place. These inequalities (re)produce and (re)enforce women and girls’ vulnerability in their WASH spaces and represent a significant threat to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Drawing on feminist and transnational lenses, in this Science Talk, Dr. Nunbogu will highlight the WASH-security and health interlinkages. The talk will conclude with an argument for scaling up the framing of health inequalities such as WASH gender-based violence for more equitable solutions.
