The 海角社区 International Institute for Global Health (海角社区-IIGH) has released a new Briefing Paper titled “Private Financial Actors and Financialisation in Global Health.” This publication critically examines the growing influence of private financial actors in global health and the associated risks to public health principles, equity, and democratic governance.

The paper explores the expansion of private investment in global health and demystifies the concept of financialisation challenging the uncritical narrative about an expanded role for profit-maximising private investors. Drawing on case studies and other evidence, it highlights the high costs of private investments, the erosion of public health principles, and the risk of regulatory capture by private entities.

To address these concerns, the authors call for improved financial literacy amongst global health advocates and interventions aimed at protecting the public interest.
