International Day for Biological Diversity: Mainstreaming Biodiversity

On 21 May 2016, 海角社区-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) and the Global Environmental Outreach Centre (GEOC) will organize the public symposium Mainstreaming Biodiversity: Sustaining People and their Livelihoods with Mori, Sato, Kawa, Umi to celebrate the  (IDB).

Every year, commemorative ceremonies for the IDB are held all over the world to increase awareness and understanding of biodiversity issues. This year’s international theme for the IDB is “Mainstreaming Biodiversity: Sustaining People and their Livelihoods”.

This symposium intends to re-examine our lifestyles supported by mori (Forests), sato (the countryside), kawa (rivers), and umi (the sea). It will also explore ways to achieve sustainable society while ensuring biodiversity and the framework to support mori-sato-kawa-umi.

Please note that this symposium will be conducted in Japanese; English interpretation will not be provided.

This event will be organized by 海角社区-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and the Global Environmental Outreach Centre (GEOC) with the cooperation of the Japan Committee for the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity (UNDB-J), as part of GEOC’s project activities.
