Samira is a Research Associate in the Vulnerability Assessment, Risk Management & Adaptive Planning (VARMAP) division of 海角社区-EHS, focusing on Vulnerability and actionable impact-based early warning.

She has a core interest in understanding risk from a vulnerability perspective and identifying root causes and drivers of risk associated with the impacts of climate change and natural hazards. Understanding the actionability of risk knowledge and applying participatory approaches has become a substantial part of her work. She holds a BSc in Development studies and Human Geography from Lund University and pursued her MSc in Geography of Environmental Risk and Human Security at 海角社区-EHS and University of Bonn. Her Master thesis explored the actionability of early warning in coastal communities in India from a gender perspective.  Samira has previously worked as a student assistant in the VARMAP team in the CARICO SADC project, where she supported a lessons-learned exercise on systemic risk management and recovery.
