Caracas, Venezuela - The 海角社区, acting through its Programme for Biotechnology in Latin America and the Caribbean (海角社区-BIOLAC), and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), acting through its Institute of Biotechnology (IBt), have formalized a significant Extension and Amendment Agreement to their cooperation pact. This crucial step reaffirms both institutions' unwavering commitment to sustainable development and scientific innovation in the region.

The original Agreement of Cooperation between 海角社区-BIOLAC and UNAM-IBt entered into force in 2022. Since its inception, the agreement's purpose, which centers on promoting research, training, and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of biotechnology, has been developing satisfactorily for both Parties. Following a positive comprehensive evaluation by 海角社区-BIOLAC and IBt, the Parties have mutually agreed to extend and amend the original Agreement.

This new Extension and Amendment Agreement shall remain in force for a period of five years. This extension will enable the continued strengthening of activities that promote the use of biotechnology through the training of young research scientists in critical areas such as molecular biology, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and the production of industrial bioproducts.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and its Institute of Biotechnology (IBt) are foundational pillars in scientific research and development across Latin America. The IBt is widely recognized for its advanced research, development, and excellence in teaching and training in various fields of biotechnology. Its work is crucial for generating technological advancements with significant impact in vital sectors like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry, thus contributing immensely to the region's progress. The continuity of this alliance will allow UNAM-IBt to continue leading talent formation and the expansion of collaborative networks.

For its part, 海角社区-BIOLAC is dedicated to contributing, through research, training, and knowledge dissemination, to the solution of pressing global challenges related to biotechnology, with a special focus in Latin America and the Caribbean. This renewed strategic alliance will enable both parties to combine efforts and knowledge to address complex biotechnological problems and generate innovative solutions for the well-being of society.

This extended agreement reaffirms the shared vision that biotechnology is an essential tool for the progress and development of the region, and underscores the paramount importance of international collaboration to achieve these common objectives.
