Next Course: “Genomics Applied to One Health”, February 2026

Apply for a scholarship to participate in the course coordinated by Dr. Laura Kamenetzky at Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Date Published
31 Oct 2025

This training course explores the intersection of genomics and the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health. As zoonotic diseases and environmental challenges grow more complex, genomic technologies offer powerful tools for surveillance, diagnosis, and control. The course aims to equip participants with cutting-edge bioinformatics and molecular biology techniques to address these challenges in a truly interdisciplinary and impactful way.

Course Activities and Topics
The course combines theoretical lectures and hands-on practical sessions:

  • Theoretical Modules:
    • Strategies for generating and analyzing x-omic data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics)
    • Genome assembly and annotation
    • Identification of disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets
    • Integration of omic data for biotechnological applications
  • Practical Modules:
    • Wet-lab: Construction of sequencing libraries and use of the MinION Nanopore platform
    • Dry-lab: Bioinformatics tools for genome assembly, transcriptomic analysis, and proteomic data interpretation
    • Use of specialized databases (e.g., EupathDB, WormBaseParasiteDB)

Scholarship Conditions

  • International students may receive full or partial fellowships covering meals, lodging, and travel expenses.
  • Selection is based on motivation, relevance to research projects, diversity of origin, and academic level. Applicants must submit a CV, motivation letter, and a support letter from their lab.

Target Audience
The course is designed for postgraduate students (Master’s, PhD), postdocs, and junior researchers in life sciences fields such as:

  • Biotechnology
  • Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Genetics
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Medicine

Candidates from other disciplines (e.g., Computer Science) may be considered if their research aligns with the course content.
